Super 8 (2011)
This is one those movies that has to be seen in the theaters. If you wait to rent or own the Blu-Ray, you will still wished you had seen it in the theaters. The action sequences are totally awesome to experience in a big screen with the latest state-of-the-art sound technology. Growing up in the 80s, I am fond of classic cult movies such as The Goonies, Stand by Me and other feel-good adventure flicks. And that's what I felt from this movie. Adventures of ordinary small town kids were very popular on the silver screen in the 1980s, and it feels like this is a revival of that genre. I am a fan of child actors who put on a great movie that you automatically find yourself being drawn or attached to their character. It is incredibly entertaining homage to the monster movies of the past. J.J. Abrams once again gave us a movie that had us scratching our heads and trying to predict what it is all about before it even comes out. Although I think the Academy will just see Super 8 as nothing but an average summer fare, I for sure will watch it again if given the chance.
