HappeningNow: Marvel's The Avengers (first round of reviews)

The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012 but the movie premier already occurred in Los Angeles and the first round of movie critics' reviews are in. It is already being considered to be this summer’s must-see blockbuster movie. When it comes to theaters worldwide, The Hunger Games’ prominent presence in the box office will have seemingly decreased by then and it couldn’t have come at a better time for Marvel.

It is no doubt that just watching the previews it will offer amazing action sequences. Writer and director Joss Whedon is being commended for making this silver screen adaptation of the world’s most elite group of heroes that will please both comic book geeks (like me) and the general audiences alike.

Here are several highlights from critics:

"...not only does this eye-popping 3D display of visual effects fireworks feature an enormously high proportion of action scenes, but director Joss Whedon has adroitly balanced the celebrity circus to give every single one of the superstar characters his or her due."
-Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter
"As serious as the stakes get, Whedon's never afraid to let a joke out... and it gives the film a light, bouncy tone that makes it such a pleasure to watch."
-Oliver Lyttelton, Indiewire
"With so many characters, it's somewhat inevitable that someone get shortchanged and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) is notably underused here."
-Eric Goldman, IGN
", funny and dramatic, but with all the trappings of a sci-fi action movie presented fully intact."
-James Hunt, Den of Geek
This is something most comic book fans have been waiting for years. The best part of this movie franchise is the endless possibilities of adding more heroes to the group since The Avengers have recruited many members since its beginning. I can absolutely see it being a trilogy, and possibly even branch out with movie spin-offs based on each member (ones that aren’t already been done…Black Widow, The Wasp, or even Ant-Man). I am a sucker for big-time movies like this. I’ll be seeing you guys at the movies on May 4th.
